Christian spirituality is not defined by the fact that Christians experience persecution, but rather in the way in which they endure it and choose to respond to it. This is the story of the first Presbyterian Church to be established in Aleppo, Syria in 1853. The witness of this Church never fades: Christians found a sanctuary to flee Ottoman massacres in 1915, and many other wars.

Since 2012, and in the process of war, the Church building in Aleppo has been brought to the ground by radical Islamist groups. With its vibrant Aleppo congregation, The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL) decided to rebuild the church and to re-activate its presence and ministry on the very same destroyed land through the construction of a Christian Activities and Services Center. The center will be a hub for theological training, ecumenical conferences, and a place for religious dialogue.
